Starcade was envisioned quite differently from the way you see it today -- a series of team competitions with the winner from each team competing against each other for the Grand Prize!
Terry Collins Original Starcade Pilot
taped: 8/30/1981
Terry was an entusiastic contestant but not a great one in terms of his score (turns out there was a reason for his low score as he explained to us when he checked in -- see below) -- he scored #6 of 8 contestants on the Yellow Team - 4,730.
Terry won a drawing at his local Chuck E. Cheese to be one of the 24 contestants
on the original STARCADE! Pilot. Terry was on the Yellow Team, playing
Pac Man. Terry won a party for 10 at his local Chuck E. Cheese's
Pizza Time Theatre. During the taping, we hosted Terry, along with
all 24 contestants, with accommodations in San Francisco at one
of the city's best hotels, sightseeing trips and the transportation
costs to get to the city.
In July 2021 Terry checked in to say, "Terry Collins, was in very first episode with Mike Erizione and Larry Wilcox. Played horribly! Wasn't a big gamer at the time, won a slot on the show in a drawing thru Chuck E. Cheese because my girlfriend at the time worked there and entered me! Actually got really drunk the night before because ... was buying all us under-agers our drinks! A good guy and nothing weird, just a great 80s memory."
Thanks, Terry, for updating us. You're one of the few Starcaders! who
was a part of our original vision for the show ... Thank you for
helping us make the magic come alive!
