Contestants: Jonah Colman

Jonah was 14 when he appeared on STARCADE! show #8. Mark Richards was the host. Jonah was a great player and we invited him back to play on an Invitational show with host Geoff Edwards.

Jonah won some of the best prizes we gave away on STARCADE! including a video arcade game, a computer and 2 (yes, two) ColecoVisions.

Jonah's Invitational was a Dragon's Lair special with ONLY Dragon's Lair.  He did great on the first round. On the second Round, he caught some low-scoring screens and lost even though, as he said, "I didn't make one mistake."  He had to settle for a ColecoVision, his second one. He won one on his first show also.

Games on Show #8
Domino Man, Buck Rogers, Pole Position, Holey Moley and Rescue. Grand Prize: Swimmer
Games on Show #38
Dragon's Lair Only. Grand Prize: Trip to Hawaii and a roll of quarters

Jonah was such a great player that he was rejected the first time he tried out. He was too good. We didn't have another player as good that he could play against. So in July 1982, Jonah was rejected as a contestant.

We received a letter from Jonah's father questioning why his son (who was such a great player) was rejected (Jonah, he said you didn't know about the letter and it may be news to you today.). Anyway, we responded telling Jonah's Dad that we agreed that Jonah was a great player and were looking for a match for him and would most certainly contact him when we found one.

True to our word, we invited Jonah to tryout again in November 1982 ... and, as they say, the rest is STARCADE! history ... Jonah was one of our best players ... winning all the good stuff we had to offer and was truly one of our best contestants.

Jonah checked in to tell us, "I got a BS in Chemistry from UC Berkeley ... got an MS in Inorganic Chemistry from UC San Diego ... a PhD in Atmospheric Chemistry in association with the Scripps Institution of Oceanography ... worked at UC Irvine as a post-doc ... got a visiting scientist position with the Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics at Los Alamos National Laboratory ... was a technical staff member with the division of earth and environmental science in the atmospheric and climate sciences group ... today I'm a Scientist."

"I married my high-school sweetheart ... had two children, Jacob & Roman."

"I took the Swimmer game to college with me ... I gave the ColecoVision to my brother ... gave the second ColecoVision to a friend. The TI computer I had for about six months before I sold it ... I did keep the monitor though, and bought an Apple ii+ to use with it."
